All relationships endure conflict from time to time. Sometimes these struggles impair the connection people have with their loved ones taking away happiness for all involved. Because relationships are cultivated, they required attention and skills to flourish and grow. Through couples counseling you can learn to open and strengthen you communication skills with your partner. During this process you and your partner will work together to address any multiple set of issues and past occurrences that may be contributing to distress in the relationship.

Couples counseling can work wonders in a relationship helping each partner to see the other’s perspective and empowering a couple to adopt positive and loving-affirming habits that meet each other's needs. When working with couples I use attachment theory and normally see marked improvement in the first three months of treatment. Most couples wait too long before they make the first call choosing to remain stuck in an unfulfilling relationship.

Couples counseling can help with:

  • Lack of connection

  • A sexless relationship

  • Having an Affair or thinking about having one

  • Negative communication

  • Financial infidelity

  • Little or no trust

  • Fear of intimacy

  • Lack of intimacy

  • Having the same arguments

  • Understanding one another

  • Premarital Counseling

Are you suffering from Trauma or PTSD?

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that can result from exposure to trauma. PTSD involves four main types of symptoms:

1. Re-experiencing (repeatedly reliving) the trauma.

2. Hyperarousal. This includes sleep problems, anger/irritability, concentration problems, always feeling on edge or on guard, jumpiness, and being easily startled.

3. Avoidance of trauma reminders. This may include trying not to think or talk about the trauma, or trying not to have feelings about it.

4. Emotional numbing. This includes losing interest in activities that used to be important to you.

The symptoms of PTSD are often accompanied by other problems, such as depression/hopelessness, drug/alcohol abuse, relationship problems, pain and other physical symptoms (e.g., headaches, stomach upset). Symptoms of PTSD may not emerge immediately after the traumatic event. Sometimes it is weeks, months, or even years before the symptoms develop. This is not a condition you need to live with forever. Although we cannot change history, we can change the way your history affects your life now. You can recover from your traumatic experience(s).
